Impotence affects about 20 million men in the U.S. alone. Because of the broader implications of the word impotence, the National Institute of Health has suggested the term Erectile Dysfunction (ED) instead. It is defined as the inability to achieve and maintain penile erection sufficient to complete satisfactory intercourse; ejaculation may or may not be affected.
